Shannon Davis is an experienced psychiatric nurse practitioner, family nurse practitioner, and emergency room nurse practitioner providing mental health services in Alaska & beyond.

Her love for mental health started in the emergency room when she noticed most of her patients were coming into the emergency room due to lack of mental health providers in the community.

Shannon & her son in Ketchikan, Alaska

Shannon was born at Ft. Campbell, KY while her father was serving in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. Her husband is also an Army Veteran and her late father in law was a five-time tour of duty of Vietnam. She has a love for her country and veterans.

She is married with an eleven-year-old son and a twenty-three-year-old son. She lives in a rural farming community just outside of Nashville, Tennessee. Her husband is a stay at home father who helps home school her son. She loves to travel, skydiving, zip-lining, and eating Japanese Hibachi. She also has a love for animals and has three dogs, 4 baby chicks and a turtle.

She graduated from Tennessee State University with her Family Nurse Practitioner and worked in the emergency department for several years. She has also worked in family practice, urgent care and as a nurse practitioner hospitalist. She also graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with her Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certificate while also attending the University of Tennessee-Knoxville Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certificate and graduated from both programs at the same time.

Shannon has worked in addiction medicine, geriatric mental health, private practice, and ER crisis. She loves all her clients and has a special interest in Veterans, children with mental health issues, and addiction medicine. She has a philosophy of “less is more” when it comes to mental health medications.

She also has a love of the great outdoors and one of the reasons for practicing in Alaska. She doesn’t just do telehealth. She may be only a hand full of providers that actually travel to see their clients in person every few months in Alaska. She feels like this show a vested interest in her patient’s to be willing to travel 4,500 miles to see them in person. She was there in August and December of last year. She also most recently traveled to Alaska in March when the travel restrictions were starting to come out and made the hard decision to continue with plans due to the importance of seeing her patients as scheduled.

Shannon also believes in an integrated care approach. This involves including medical providers being involved in mental health care. Due to the fact that Shannon is a Family Nurse Practitioner as well, she can also assess for medical reasons that may be causing or exacerbating mental health conditions.
